Why Choose SMS Restore?

We offer restoration and maintenance services for marble, terrazzo, granite, travertine, limestone, slate  and other natural stone.  After a period of time stone floors, countertops, walls, showers and vanities  start to looking dull, get scratched, etched or damaged. We have over 20 years experience in restoring and re-polishing and re-sealing these sustainable surfaces. High quality diamond abrasives in the grinding and resurfacing phases of restoration will offer much better clarity and more light reflection after polishing. Proven tests have indicated that polishing the stone and applying an impregnating/penetrating sealer will increase the coefficient of friction, making the surface safer than waxes and polymers.

“We use the finest, highest quality abrasive diamond discs & polishing compounds for stone restoration.”

Stone Floor Services

Service removes surface coatings that block the stone’s ability to breathe which causes spalling (when the stone chips, cracks or starts to flake). Some examples of surface coatings are janitorial waxes, and polymers in floor finish.  This process is necessary if any of the above coatings are found on the floor.

We use the highest quality stone safe cleaners to remove build-up,dirt, dust and grease from all types of stone finishes and surfaces. Stone cleaning can be done separately or included in our stone restoration scope of work.

This process is done with a heavy duty, weighted floor machine with highly abrasive diamond discs and water which creates slurry instead of dust. This is a recommended process in order to achieve a mirror-like finish if the floor has lippage (uneven tile heights).  Grinding is also necessary if the floor has been crystallized or vitrified due to the surface being chemically altered.

Honing is the diamond sanding process that removes a thin layer of the stone, sanding away light damage, etch marks and the majority of scratches.  Honing restores the stone surface to a matte finish and is a vital process to reveal a true polish.

Do you have cracks or chips in your beautiful stone surface that you’d like repaired? We use epoxy resins, dyes, stone chips & stone dust to color match the repair and get your surface looking great again.  Contact us to receive a free quote.

The use of water or solvent based impregnated sealers that are formulated to enhance or enrich the color of honed natural stone.  This is an excellent sealer for bringing out the vibrant colors in honed granite and slate.

Do you have a bar, granite countertop or stone surface that has ugly stains? This can be done during the grinding or honing stages of restoration or for the smaller stains, special poultices are created to “lift” the stain.

We use powder polishing compounds and mechanical polishing techniques that allow true light reflection and yield high gloss “Wow Factor” results. The polishing process varies slightly depending on the type of stone. Call or email for quotes please.

When sealing a stone floor the use of  impregnating or penetrating sealers allow the stone to breathe while protecting and preserving from everyday foot traffic and spills. However, acidic liquids and abrasives will penetrate any type of sealer if left on long enough.

Scheduled Maintenance Programs
Even after a polished stone surface has been restored and properly sealed, the beautiful appearance is not permanent. Proper daily care will greatly extend the appearance, but on-going foot-traffic and other factors will always be wearing away at the polished finish. A periodic maintenance program could mean additional expenses, but it will ensure beauty at all times and prevent the need for complete restoration again in the future.
After restoration, we can design a periodic maintenance schedule.  The frequency will be determined by a couple factors; the amount of daily traffic received, the needs of your specific stone and the appearance level that you would like to maintain.
For high traffic terrazzo flooring, we also offer high performance restorative coatings.  Contact us to discuss these options.
